Therapy
Every relationship has its ups and downs, and whether you're dating, engaged, or married, couples therapy can be a powerful tool to strengthen your bond and navigate challenges together. Relationships are complex, and sometimes even the strongest couples need a safe space to explore what’s going on beneath the surface. That’s where I come in.
As a licensed marriage and family therapist, I am specially trained to address the unique dynamics that exist between partners. My approach is warm, compassionate, and rooted in the understanding that no two relationships are the same. Using techniques from Gottman Couples Therapy, I work with you to explore the foundation of your relationship, focusing on how you communicate about expectations, values, and the day-to-day challenges of life. Together, we will identify and disarm the negative patterns that may be holding you back from the relationship you desire.
Who Can Benefit from Couples Therapy?
Whether you’re in the early stages of your relationship or have been together for years, couples therapy can offer valuable insights and tools for growth. I work with couples at every stage, including:
-
Premarital Counseling: Preparing for marriage is about more than just planning a wedding—it's about building a solid foundation for your future together.
-
Strengthening Communication: Learn how to express your needs, listen actively, and understand your partner better.
-
Relationship Contracting: Clarify your relationship expectations and goals, ensuring you're both on the same page.
-
Rebuilding Trust after Infidelity: If your relationship has been rocked by infidelity, we’ll work together to navigate the difficult path toward healing and rebuilding trust.
-
Reviving Intimacy and Passion: Relationships can lose their spark over time. We'll explore ways to reignite that sense of connection and excitement, whether it's through improved emotional intimacy, physical closeness, or deeper communication.
-
Sex Therapy: We’ll create a safe and supportive environment to address issues related to sexual intimacy and satisfaction.
-
Healing Old Wounds: Unresolved conflicts and emotional wounds from the past can continue to affect your relationship today. We’ll address these hurts to foster healing and growth.
-
Navigating Fertility Issues: Fertility struggles can take a heavy toll on a relationship, causing emotional strain and uncertainty. Couples therapy provides a space to process these emotions, support each other, and strengthen your connection as you navigate this challenging journey together.
-
Empty Nest Transitions: Life changes as children grow up and move out. We’ll focus on reconnecting as a couple and rediscovering your partnership in this new stage of life.
-
Navigating Uncertainty: If you’re unsure whether it’s time to separate or stay together, couples therapy can provide clarity and help you make informed decisions.
What I Don’t Address
While couples therapy can be transformative, there are some situations where it may not be the right fit, particularly in cases of active domestic violence. Research shows that couples therapy may not be safe or beneficial in such cases, as it can exacerbate risks. If you are in an active domestic violence situation, I will refer you to individual therapy where your safety and well-being can be more appropriately addressed.
My Approach to Therapy
In couples therapy, my focus is always on the relationship as a whole. However, personal growth plays an essential role in a healthy partnership. If individual issues impact the relationship, I recommend that you begin or continue individual therapy alongside couples therapy. This allows us to concurrently address personal and relational needs, helping you achieve more holistic growth and healing.
Investment in Your Relationship
The cost for couples therapy is $200 per session. Please note that couples therapy is typically not covered by health insurance plans, so be prepared to invest directly in the health of your relationship. To make couples therapy affordable, we will explore whether you meet the criteria for your insurance to deem couples therapy as "medically necessary." If they do not believe services are "medically necessary, you will be responsible for the full session fee.
